University High named Blue Ribbon school

After special review from the state and federal departments of education, University High charter school has been named a national Blue Ribbon school, a federal award that honors high levels of academic achievement or progress closing the achievement gap.
The school that’s located on the Fresno State campus joins 25 other California schools and is one of just three high schools on the list. Pinedale Elementary, a Clovis Unified school, was also given the distinction this year.
California education officials say University High and Cupertino-based Monta Vista High School were added to the initial list of 24 schools when federal officials noticed just one California high school made the first cut. A second review of the other nominated high schools revealed University and Monta Vista met the necessary criteria.
