Dear parents/guardians,

Enclosed with this letter is a copy of the first progress report of the year.  We send these grades every six weeks during the semester because we want to be sure you have seen them.  I know you are aware that you can always monitor your student’s progress on PowerSchool, but remember you can also require PowerSchool to send you daily, weekly or monthly updates via email.  Don’t be afraid to log into the program and explore its functionality so you can stay fully abreast of your student’s efforts at UHS.   We have also included two flyers promoting our upcoming Magic of the Arts.  Yes, MOTA is here!

Our counselors are busy doing conferences.  They are meeting with all seniors and are also assisting me with freshman conferences.  As a former high school counselor one of the best things I get to do each year is sit down with every freshman for a conference.  I like to hear the stories of our freshman and welcome them to UHS, giving my words of advice on how to be successful.   Mrs. Hickman and the counselors join me during these conferences because we all work with the freshman.  But please remember every student here has an academic counselor, either Mrs. Carvalho (Mrs Fernandez is filling in and is working with students with last names A to K) or Mrs. Bird (L to Z).   If at any time you think counselors can help with your student, don’t hesitate to call them.

Thank you to the many families who have pledged their support to this year’s annual fund. The Annual Fund is a donation but we rely on it to bridge the funding gap that exists between what the state provides and what it actually costs to operate our school.  If you have not had a chance to send in your pledge or donation, please do so today (we will be sending out more forms).   Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Director of Development & Community Outreach, Joanna Felger at or 278-1589.

We are also very pleased to see all the parent volunteers who have come to our school.  We had volunteers at Back-to-School Night, the freshman and sophomore field trips, and several events back in August.   Please keep it up; I cannot tell you how helpful all of this is.

I hope this fall finds you and your family well.  It has been fun for us at UHS mostly because the teachers are having such a great time; they report to me daily how much they enjoy teaching your students.  I hope your students give you similar reports.  Please give us a call if we can be of any assistance.
